Internet of Things (IoT) has been considered as an alternative solution to energy efficiency problem in tourism industry. IoT can be applied for environmentally friendly tourism industry

IoT can be applied in tourism industry particularly related to energy saving (Napitupulu, Rampengan, & Gaol, 2016). Tourism industry has changed to be more environment friendly and give impact to their bussiness such as energy costs reduction (Micioni, 2018). Internet of Things (IoT) is a field where any device or object can be made smart and identifiable through radio frequency tags. These devices can communicate with many other smart devices through the network (Kaur & Kaur, 2016).

Some ideas about bringing tourism industry into technology-based are already proposed. The smart tourism destination idea became interesting issue to integrate tourism industry to technology platform.

The benefits of involving technology and internet in conventional business models beyond the use of mere websites are manifold (Kaur & Kaur, 2016). Although currently in Indonesia the use of internet over smart phones is quite high, but applications in the tourism industry are still relatively low in its application to energy savings. One problem that often encountered is the stability of internet connection. Not all areas in Indonesia have good internet connection stability. This can lead to user reluctance in implementing internet-based applications such IoT.
